Beijing tremors after 4.4-magnitude earthquake hits Hebei

At precisely 6:31pm this evening, China's Seismological Bureau recorded a 4.4-magnitude earthquake in Langfang, Hebei.

Though only classified as 'light' (4-4.9 magnitude) on the Richter scale, Langfang's earthquake was felt 65 kilometres away in Beijing, Tianjin and even as far as Tanggu, with Beijing netizens immediately taking to the web to report the slight swaying of tables and chairs.

In the last five years, there have already been 11 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above within 200 kilometres of Langfang's epicentre. The largest earthquake was the 4.3-magnitude earthquake (150 kilometres away) in Zhangjiakou, Hebei back in September 2014. As of now, there have been no further updates from China's Seismological Bureau, though aftershocks may be a possibility. Until then, as you were.
